Health Ministries Advisory Commission

The Health Ministry Advisory Commission, with the Parish Nurse, integrates the caring programs that create a holistic response, such as educational events focusing on prevention of disease and injury, or screening and appropriate interventions in illness or brokenness.

These are designed to foster well-being, regardless of whether the illness or injury is cured. The mission of the commission is to involve the entire parish community in carrying out the healing ministry of Jesus through care of the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Meetings are 7 p.m. on the second Monday of every other month, except June, July and August.

Meeting Minutes
Health Ministries include:
Bereavement Ministry
A small group of parishioners, having felt called to minister to the sorrowing and grieving, have undertaken to provide consolation, support, and direct practical assistance to individuals and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. These ministers strive to ease the burden of those involved in planning a funeral liturgy, be it a liturgy/Mass or memorial service. They are able to assist with the grieving process, explain and help the grieving select the elements of a prayerful and respectful liturgy, act as liaisons between the family and the priest, ministers, musicians and others, as needed, as well as assist in accessing resources available before, during, and after a death occurs.

Bereavement Hospitality
This ministry works with the Bereavement Ministry, helping a grieving family by providing a gathering space and hospitality to celebrate the life of their deceased loved one. If your gifts lie in consolation and healing of the grieving, please consider becoming a bereavement hospitality minister.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
A group of knitters meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1-2:30 pm to knit or crochet Prayer Shawls. The knitters in the group begin each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When completed, the shawls are given to a parishioner who is undergoing a hospitalization.

Elizabeth Ministry
The Elizabeth Ministers are a group of women who minister to young families in childbearing years. Ministers are able to offer support, encouragement, and prayers during times of celebration and times of sorrow. The Elizabeth Ministers coordinator the Expectant Parent Blessing and also deliver a gift from the parish when the baby is born or adopted. The Elizabeth Ministers meet in the Guadalupe Room on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 pm in November and May.
Eucharistic Ministry to Homebound
Trained Eucharistic Ministers, through this compassionate ministry, reverently administer the Holy Eucharist to those who are ill or temporarily unable to come to church and are confined to home. These Communion ministers need to be good listeners, friendly, and willing to spend time with people. Flexible schedules are helpful.
